Rocio Silvestre joined the GLOBAL project in 2019 as a PhD student in Plant Science at the University of Idaho working under Dr. Joseph Kuhl. Her PhD project focuses on mapping PCN (Globodera pallida) resistance in tetraploid potato.

Rocio is from Peru and she received a BS in Biology from Universidad Nacional Federico Villarreal and her MSc in Biotechnology at the Universidad Nacional Mayor de San Marcos, Lima-Peru. She started her nine-year tenure at the International Potato Center (CIP) in Lima 2009 with her master’s thesis in Virology where she worked on detect of viruses associated with potato using next generation sequencing technology. In 2012-2018 she moved to CIP-Genebank as the curator for the long-term in vitro conservation of potato and sweet potato breeding lines.
