USDA-ARS Research Plant Pathologist Jonathan Whitworth serves as a Principal Investigator on the GLOBAL Project, as well as team leader for the Project’s Plant Genetics and Breeding for Globodera Resistance group.  

Dr. Whitworth’s research program involves host resistance to many different potato diseases done in conjunction with a potato breeding program.  Specific areas of research include Potato virus Y resistance and potato cyst nematode resistance against Globodera pallida, G. rostochiensis, and G. ellingtonae. Dr. Whitworth received a BS degree in Plant Science from Utah State University (1987), an M.S. (1990) and a Ph.D. (1993), both in Crop Science with a minor in Plant Pathology from Oregon State University.  From 1993 through 2003, he worked in seed potato certification in Colorado and Idaho.
